 | BETTER SOUTHEND - City Beach Project |
 |

To celebrate the benefits of £25m funding and the schemes it will bring to the town a ’ground breaking’ ceremony for the city beach project was organized. Those councillors who had undertaken most of the burden in preparing the project alongside the officers who supported them were present for a brief photo shoot for the press. Sadly with all the ice last week it was thought too dangerous to actually use the drill
The improvements, presented under the consolidated banner of ‘BETTER SOUTHEND’ include highway improvements at Progress Road, Cuckoo Corner, Victoria Square and along the Central Seafront- City Beach. The Progress Road and Cuckoo Corner will reduce congestion and make travelling by car, bus, bike or as a pedestrian easier. Victoria Square will also see major reductions in congestion and the creation of a new ’square’ to welcome people to Southend and to assist in wayfinding, City Beach sees the highway realigned to provide for Mariners Square where there will be a fountains, improved toilets and beach access. a new promenade and some fantastic new digital lights.
