 | Good Design and Sustainable Buildings Are Important for All |
 |
The Newly updated Design and Townscape Guide goes to Cabinet for approval this week (22/09/09). This guide will set down important principles for development in our Town, it will help to protect our bungalows and large family homes, our side gardens and back gardens from unwanted development and it requires a very high standard of sustainability both in the construction and the future use. The design and Townscape guide also lays down guidelines as to what is appropriate development, its scale and massing including the appropriateness of tall buildings.
Southend Conservatives welcome this guide as they believe that what is allowed to be built should be in the right place, of the right scale and be well designed.
Anna Waite the Conservative Councillor responsible for planning ‘says we want to ensure that all developments from the small to the large meet good standards are in the right location and add value to the town. We do not want ‘cowboy’ developers but well designed buildings that are properly constructed and sustainable to live in. The guide also deals with several smaller but important issues such as outside seating, seagulls and pigeons and advertising.’
The Design and Townscape guide forms part of the planning documents and will assist in the determining of applications and at appeal. It has been widely consulted upon and has been recommended for approval by a cross party working group within the council.
