 Southend’ Conservative led Council, in partnership with bus operators Arriva and First East England, have applied for over £800,000k of Government Kickstart funding to support 2 new bus services in the town. Central Government has provisionally set aside £25million over the next 3 financial years and successful bidders will be announced some time this summer.
The bids are:
A regular link of a conventional bus service from Leigh on Sea in the West of the Borough to Garon Park and Temple Sutton in the East of the Borough. the proposal will provide a bus route with better access and connectivity across the Borough improving links to shops, schools, sports and health centres.
This Service is anticipated to operate half hourly Monday - Saturday between 0630 hrs and 1900 hrs and will restore public transport links to the North and South of Leigh and Belfairs wards, improved bus links to the new municipal swimming pool, and existing sports centre along with imroved bus links to places of employment, various schools in the wards and improved public transport links between the east and west of the Borough
The proposed route will be: Leigh Rail Station, Leigh Post Office, Elmsleigh Drive, Eastwood Road, The Fairway, Progress Road, Rayleigh Road, Whitehouse, Nestuda Way, Prince Avenue, Priory Crescent, Eastern Avenue, Archer Ave, Hamstel Road, North Ave, Sutton Road, and Travel Centre.
The other bid is:
An improved and extended service 13 from Temple Sutton to Shoeburyness. Which will also provide a new Sunday service which will operate initially for 3 years and which will hopefully continue if passenger numbers make the service viable. The extended route will be via Temple Sutton, along Hamstel Road, Southchurch Boulevard and North Shoebury Road to Asda. This service will connect the Town centre and Shoebury via St Luke’s and Southchurch, giving access 7 days a week to the new
